Pay yourself first
In shortSave on payday, before you spend. There's rarely anything left at the end.
Most people plan to save whatever is left at the end. There's rarely anything left. So flip it: savings come out on payday, before anything else.
Start small. $10 or $20 a pay is fine. The habit matters more than the amount, and you can raise it later.
Example: a little every pay
- $20 every 2 weeks
- $520 a year
- $50 every 2 weeks
- $1,300 a year
- $25 every week
- $1,300 a year
Before any interest.
Make it automatic. Set your bank to move the money to a savings account on payday, so you never have to decide.
Stuffed keeps count, and your bank holds the money. On Goals, choose Save for something and set what goes in each payday. Leave How much you need empty for savings that keep growing.
